TALL PINES RIDE

OUR TRAIL

Riders will travel through the beautiful Gila National Forest in the Burro Mountains Southwest of Silver City on some jeep roads and forest trails, all well marked with surveyor's ribbon. Water will be available at all vet checks (all in base camp) and several places along the trail. Trails will consist of long sandy washes, jeep roads and stretches of rocky terrain.    NO SMOKING ON THE TRAIL

AWARDS

A meal will be served for all entries Saturday night starting at 6:00 pm. Guest tickets may be purchased for $10 each. The awards will be handed out Saturday evening after the banquet. Breakfast will not be served this year, please bring your own.

ENTRY

Entry fee is $80 for the 30 and 55 Miler rides (Non-AERC entrants will be charged an additional $15). The fun riders will not need to be AERC members and their fee will be $30. Your fee must accompany your application. On the entry blank please indicate which weight division you are in with tack: Featherweight, up to 160: Lightweight, 161-185: Middleweight, 186-210: Heavyweight, over 210. Ride management reserves the right to refuse entry to anyone. Fun riders need not worry about the weight divisions. The vets will be available for check in on Friday afternoon.

ACCOMODATIONS

Camping will be at the check in point. No electrical hookups are available. Horse water and porta-potties will be available at base camp.   PLEASE, NO LOOSE DOGS IN BASE CAMP .... WE COULD LOSE OUR PERMISSION FOR THE PRIVATE PROPERTY!! There will be a farrier available on Saturday.

RULES

  1. The ride management reserves the right to interpret the following rules and regulations and to arbitrarily settle any questions which may arise from or in connection with or incident to this ride.
  2. Horses must be at least five years old for the 55 Miler, and four years old or older for 30 Miler. Mares in foal will not be permitted.
  3. Horses must have hoof protection.
  4. Abuse of the horse and use of stimulants and/or painkillers is prohibited. All horses are subjected to saliva and/or urine tests.
  5. Horses must stand all vet inspections and the opinion of the veterinarians is final regarding the health of the horse.
  6. The same horse and rider must pass all control points and stay on the marked trail in order to qualify for awards. The responsibility for recording in and out of vet checks rests with the rider.
  7. Stallions must be handled and ridden by a competent adult.
  8. The ride must be completed in 13 1/4 hours elapsed time for the 55 Miler and 7 1/4 hours elapsed time for the 30 Miler. There is no minimum riding time.
  9. There will be no ties.
  10. A JUNIOR is a rider 16 years of age or younger. If you have a JUNIOR that is going to ride please contact ride management before the ride for rules governing JUNIOR riders. All juniors MUST have a sponsor at time of entry, and wear an approved safety helmet during the event.
  11. A violation of any of the ride or AERC rules will subject the horse and rider to immediate disqualification.
  12. Ride management reserves the right to refuse service to anyone.
  13. A protest, in writing, shall be delivered to the ride management within 24 hours of the protesting occurrence. A $150 cash deposit MUST accompany the protest. The $150 cash deposit will be forfeited if the protest is not sustained. Ride management will adjudicate all protests.
